Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has bared his mind on the viral video, where a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Elisha Abbo, was seen assaulting a woman.

Describing the video as “sad” and “inexcusable”, Atiku, who was the standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the last presidential election, the party which the senator represents in the senator, called on the PDP to take “necessary disciplinary action” on the senator.

Recall that Abbo, 41, senator representing Adamawa North senatorial district (PDP), was caught on camera physically assaulting a woman at an adult sex toy shop in Abuja.

Abbo, in the video, descended on the woman with rounds of slaps after she pleaded with him not to physically assault the shop owner whom the senator had accused of insulting him.

Atiku, who stated that he knows the senator “quite well”, advised him to report himself to the police, and stressed that all must be done by the Nigerian Police to ensure that the law takes its course on the issue.

His words: I have seen the alleged assault video involving Sen. Elisha Abbo. The video is sad, inexcusable.

“I know the Senator quite well. But the law is clear and leaders must lead by example.

“‪‪I advise him to publicly apologize, voluntarily go to the police and show a good example excted of a young leader.

“I also call on our party, the PDP to take necessary disciplinary action and the Nigerian Police to ensure the law takes its full course,” the former Vice President said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, activists, rights groups, personalities within and outside Nigeria have been reacting to the alleged assault by the senator with calls that he is not fit to be in the Senate going by his action and must be prosecuted for his action.
DAILY POST had reported that the Inspector General of Police has ordered for the immediate arrest of Senator Elisha Abbo, as the Nigerian Senate set up committee to investigate the case.
