BREXITEER Steve Baker has poured scorn on Jeremy Corbyn after the Labour leader claimed Boris Johnson had sole responsibility for the failure to deliver Brexit.

  • Boris Johnson says Labour leadership would be ‘drift and dither’

He is having a laugh

Daniel Kawczynski MP

“The British people know it was Corbyn and Parliament who stopped Brexit by October 31.”

Mr Kawczynski told Express.co.uk: “He is having a laugh. His incompetence together with a lack of a spine has allowed Remainer fanatics in his party to thwart Brexit.“I sincerely hope voters will punish Labour for their double standards.”

Minutes earlier Mr Corbyn tweeted: “Boris Johnson has spent months promising we’d leave the EU today.

“The failure to do so is his and his alone.

“Labour will get Brexit sorted by giving the people the final say within six months with the choice of a credible leave deal or remain. And we’ll carry out what you decide.”

Jonathan Isaby, editor of the BrexitCentral website, tweeted: “The brass neck of the Labour leader claiming our failure to leave the EU today is Boris Johnson’s fault is staggering.

“Corbyn and this rotten Remainer Parliament conspired at every turn to prevent Brexit today – despite being elected on a ticket of delivering Brexit in 2017.”

Mr Corbyn’s remark also prompted derision on Twitter.

Tory MEP Dan Hannan wrote: “Boris did the deal to get us out that you thought he would never achieve. You then blocked it.

“Now you want to string out the uncertainty even more. Blame Boris? Just how stupid do you think we are?”

Andy Mack commented: “You and the remain parliament have spent months stopping him.

“You can no longer run from the electorate, Labour have been dragged kicking and screaming into an election.

“The time has come where you finally realise the extend of the betrayal you have been at the front of.”

Anthony Day said: “NO! You do not want to leave. You frustrated Brexit by delaying it over and over again.

“This is not Boris’s fault. You will find out at the ballot box how frustrated and angry people are!”

Diesel_N_Dust added: “Have you forgotten what’s happened over the past 2 months? The only person to blame is you!!!!”

Jeremy Corbyn’s positions on Brexit

Christine O’Byrne said: “Do you honestly believe that if you keep saying that then the people will believe you?

“You seem to forget that we watched it all play out in parliament live. I know many Labour voters who will never vote Labour again.”

Speaking in the Commons yesterday, Mr Johnson sought to blame his opposite number for the ongoing deadlock.

He said: “Today should have been the day that Brexit was delivered and we finally left the EU.

“But, despite the great new deal I agreed with the EU, Jeremy Corbyn refused to allow that to happen – insisting upon more dither, more delay and more uncertainty for families and business.

“We cannot continue along this path. I didn’t want an election – like the country I wanted to get Brexit done, but it is the only way forward.”
