A Nigerian man seems to have switched to powering his generator with cooking gas amidst the removal of the fuel subsidy that birthed the new back-breaking cost of petrol.
The young man took via his TikTok handle, @kingsolya revealed that a filled 2kg cylinder of gas would power the generator for 12 hours.
Due to the high cost of petrol, which exceeds N500 per litre, many individuals have opted to modify their generators to run on gas, which is more affordable than fuel. This is made possible with a device that makes the fuel combustion mechanism of the engine of the generation to be powered by cooking gas.
Like cooking, the gas goes through a hose directly to the generator’s carburetor. Although the generator’s power source had been changed, it maintained its fuel tank for aesthetics.
Many people who watched the man’s TikTok video had mixed reactions to the innovation. Some people believed it could be dangerous having it at home.
