The first meeting ever held by the 17 governors of the Southern states of Nigeria. It was held in Delta Government House and hosted by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The meeting resolved as follows:
1. People of Southern states are committed to the unity of Nigeria on the basis of justice, equity and fairness and peaceful co-existence between and among Nigerians for economic development and prosperity.
2. The forum observed criminal bandits in Southern states, this has posed a severe security challenge and our people are not able to live normal lives, including pursuing productive activities, leading to threat in food supply. Consequently, the forum resolved that open grazing be banned across all the 17 Southern states.
3. The meeting also banned movement of cattle by foot. It says FG should support states that are willing to invest in livestock management.
4. The meeting resolved that progress of the nation requires restructuring. Hence, it said steps should be taken to restructure Nigeria federation leading to evolution of state policing and establishment of other institutions that will advance true federalism.
5. The meeting recommended greater inclusiveness in governance, hence the federal government should convoke a national dialogue as a matter of urgency.
6. Appointment into federal government agencies including military and police, should reflect federal character as Nigeria is ethno-religious state.
7. The meeting expressed concern on the economic implications of anticipated lockdown in the country and called for cooperation between states and the federal government in evolving strategies in the war against COVID-19 pandemic.
8. The meeting expressed concern over the security challenge in the nation and strongly urged Mr. President to address the nation on the state of security in Nigeria.
