Prominent Nigerian lawyer, Goddy Uwazurike has addressed the security situation in the Southeastern part of Nigeria, during an interview on Arise News. Speaking during the interview, Uwazurike claims that the assailants in the South-East are foreigners and not Igbo people.
You may recall the persistent attacks on government facilities and individuals in the Southeastern part of Nigeria by unknown gunmen.
So far, the multiple attacks in the area has resulted in the killing of security operatives and burning of government structures by armed men. Nigeria’s security operatives have however swung into action in the region and some suspects have been arrested in connection to the recent attacks.
According to Uwazurike, the violence experienced in the South-East is synchronized by foreigners and not Igbo people. He explained that one of the strategies adopted by people in the South-East was to get close to the assailants and speak Igbo language to them. Uwazurike claims that the assailants however responded in ‘broken English’.
Speaking further Uwazurike said, “You saw the man speaking on Sunday, being displayed by the police as the only surviving person among those who attempted to bomb the prisons again. The man was given an Igbo name and when he spoke, he had a Northern accent.”
The man referred to by Uwazurike during the interview is Mr. Stanley Osinachi who was recently paraded by the Imo State Police Command.
Uwazurike claims that what is being witnessed in the South-East is a ‘programmed action’ by some people, aimed towards distabilizing the South-East. Uwazurike claims that with the ongoing instability in the region, it’s ability to produce a President will be up for questioning.
Uwazurike stated during the interview that Igbo people are builders and they’re not destroyers.
