The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday urged the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, “not to plunge the nation into a monumental crisis” by refusing to obey the Court of Appeal’s ruling to release the materials used for the conduct of February 23 presidential election.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement, also said INEC, by this alleged action, is blatantly standing in the way of justice and working against the will of the people in their quest to salvage the nation.
He also said the alleged action was against the pursuit of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to reclaim his ‘stolen’ mandate at the tribunal.
Ologbondiyan said, “The continued refusal of INEC to release the electoral materials to the PDP and our legal team is completely provocative and shows that the Commission is working in cahoots with the All Progressives Congress and the Muhammadu Buhari presidency to frustrate the PDP, Atiku, and majority of Nigerians from retrieving our mandate at the tribunal.”
