The Apple iPhone XR just achieved a monumental victory over the Samsung Galaxy S10

APPLE’s iPhone XR has just achieved a monumental victory over arguably its biggest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S10 – here’s why.

iPhone XR was unveiled back in September of last year

iPhone XR was unveiled back in September of last year and was positioned as a more affordable handset for Apple fans.

iPhone XR starts from £749, meaning it costs £250 less than Apple’s entry level iPhone Xs flagship.

The device makes a few compromises to achieve its lower price tag but still totes a quality rear camera, fast processor and great battery life.

It seems the iPhone XR has been a hit with customers, at least those in the US.

Research firm Counterpoint recently issued a report discussing US smartphone performance during the second quarter of 2019.

In particular, Counterpoint listed the top five smartphones in the US based on sales.

Apple’s iPhone XR was ranked first in the list and was well ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy S10+ that placed fourth – cementing a huge victory for Apple’s hardware.

Here is a full list of Counterpoint’s smartphone rankings in the US for the second quarter of 2019:

2 – Apple iPhone 8

3 – Apple iPhone Xs Max

4 – Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

5 – Samsung Galaxy S10

Apple as a whole was said to have experienced 14 percent growth year over year with its range of handsets.

In contrast, Samsung was noted to have experienced a decline of 19 percent during the same period.

In an analysis of the results, Counterpoint’s research director Jeff Fieldhack declared one of the reasons for Samsung’s decline was wavering Galaxy S10 sales.

He explained: “Samsung declined as Galaxy S10 sales began to waver in Q2. Samsung had a solid launch of the Galaxy S10 series but is now seeing signs of weakness.

“The S10e had underperformed from the beginning and sales of the S10 Plus and S10 have decelerated.

“Consumers are holding on to their older devices longer in anticipation of more 5G options coming out second half of 2019 and 2020.”
