Tory leadership: William Hague pledges support for one candidate Following two terrible election campaigns and the delay to Brexit, the Tory Party is now under severe pressure to make sure it has the best leader possible according to Mr Hague. Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Hague claimed that if the party make another mistake in the coming weeks, it could have serious consequences. Moreover, following the rise of the Brexit Party, Liberal Democrats and the possibility of Jeremy Corbyn led Government, Mr Hague warned that the “stakes could not be higher”.
He added: “Serious mistakes in the coming months could be terminal for the world’s most enduring political force.
“If we collectively get this wrong there will probably be no further time to correct it.”
While Mr Hague claimed “both candidates have great qualities” he insisted only Jeremy Hunt was the right man for the job.
The former Conservative Party leader said: “I am logically and inescapably drawn to vote for Jeremy Hunt.
Tory leadership: Mr Hague pledges support to Jeremy Hunt “Both candidates are committed to a policy that will be formidably hard to implement.
“But one of them has left himself the space in which to do it, even if only a little – an important consideration in a Parliament the Tories do not control.”
Moreover, referencing the performance of the Labour party in the last General Election, Mr Hague warned of the threat of Mr Corbyn in Government.
Warning his own party, Mr Hague said: “In nearly 300 years of the existence of a British Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn would be in a category of his own for his hatred of so many attributes of the country itself.
